Google has announced three new upgrades for AI Mode in Search, designed to streamline the travel planning process. Building on existing features that allow users to compare flights and hotels, find recommendations, and craft itineraries, the new capabilities focus on price tracking, rewards redemption, and direct hotel booking. These additions aim to make AI Mode a more comprehensive tool for travelers, reducing the need to switch between multiple websites and apps during the planning journey.
A key new feature is the integration of Google Flights' price tracking into AI Mode. Users can now set up price alerts while chatting, without interrupting their flow. By describing their travel dates and destination, AI Mode will display the best options with current prices from over 300 partner airlines and travel sites. If users want to wait for a better deal, they can simply ask AI Mode to 'track these flight prices for me' and receive email notifications when prices change. This feature is available in more than 180 countries and territories.
AI Mode can now show the cost of flights and hotels in points or miles, helping travelers maximize their rewards. Users can ask for options using specific loyalty programs, such as 'I want to travel from Atlanta to Miami using my AA miles,' and see the required miles for matching flights. This capability is globally available, with initial support for partners like Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, Hilton, and Wyndham. Additional partners, including Accor, Hyatt, and Lufthansa Group, are expected to be added in the coming weeks.
The third major upgrade is the ability to book hotels directly within AI Mode. Users can describe their trip and preferences to receive a visual list of options with guest reviews and comparison factors. Once a hotel is selected, users can ask AI Mode to complete the booking, then choose 'Continue on Google' to finalize the reservation. The booking process is secure via Google Pay, with the hotel or booking platform acting as the merchant of record. This feature is rolling out in the U.S. in English, with partners including Booking.com, Expedia, Hilton, and Marriott.
To track flight prices, describe your travel plans in AI Mode and ask it to 'track these flight prices for me.' After you confirm, Google will send you an email whenever prices change for your selected destination and dates. This feature is available in over 180 countries and territories.
Initial support includes Alaska Airlines, Hawaiian Airlines, American Airlines, Choice Hotels, Hilton, and Wyndham. In the coming weeks, Google will add support for Accor, Flying Blue, Hyatt, LATAM Airlines, and Lufthansa Group. You can ask AI Mode to show costs in points or miles for both flights and hotels.
